Jeanne Clery Act

The Jeanne Clery Act was enacted in the belief that crime awareness can prevent campus victimization. The law requires colleges and universities receiving federal funding to prepare, publish, and distribute, by October 1 of each year, campus security policies and crime statistics. WSU maintains records of crime statistics for the last three academic years in accordance with the “Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act”.  WSU also maintains and publishes campus fire statistics as required by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

WSU Public Safety, which includes the Police Department, is responsible for maintaining these records and issuing warnings as required by the Clery Act and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. The crime and fire information are published in the annual Cougar Security and Fire Report.
