Shelter in Place/Lockdown
In the event of a Lockdown:
BEFORE:
- Personally sign up to receive campus emergency notifications through myWSU and keep your contact information current.
- Personally have a plan to lock down your work area, classroom or dorm room.
- Be alert to your surroundings and plan early.
DURING:
- Close and lock all doors to the room.
- Close window shades, if they are available. Turn off lights.
- Leave cell phones on with silenced ringers.
- Only allow entry to others if you are certain they are no threat.
- Wait for further instructions from university officials.
SHELTER IN PLACE:
BEFORE:
- Personally sign up to receive campus emergency notifications through myWSU, and keep your contact information current.
- Personally make a Shelter in Place plan for your work, class or dorm area.
- Shelter in Place means going inside the nearest building and selecting a small, interior room, above the ground floor, with no or few windows and taking refuge there.
- Be alert of your surroundings and plan early.
DURING:
When the Shelter in Place order is given take the following actions:
- Select an interior room(s) above the ground floor, with the fewest windows or vents.
- Close and lock all windows, exterior doors, and any other openings to the outside.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
- Use your cell phone to call 911 and report your exact location including building name, building address and room number.
- Wait for further instructions from university officials.
